Allen-Bradley servo motor repair

Star Automations repairs Allen-Bradley servo motors, including MP-Series, TL-Series and older Y and H series motors used with Kinetix and Ultra drives. The motor is inspected, the failed parts are repaired or replaced, the encoder is aligned where needed, and the motor is proved on our servo motor test system with a no-load run and a full-load test before it leaves our Chennai bench. We are not a Allen-Bradley dealer or service partner; the brand name describes the motor we repair.

01Failures

Common Allen-Bradley servo motor failures

Feedback faults

Hiperface and resolver feedback alarms from encoder failure or cable damage.

Bearing and seal wear

Noise and contamination on motors in washdown and packaging lines.

Winding insulation

Ground faults from moisture in the winding.

Brake faults

Holding brakes that slip or do not release.

02Test bench

What the test bench checks

Allen-Bradley motors are tested on our servo motor test system without a Kinetix drive, then loaded on the rig.

  • Insulation resistance and hi-pot
  • Winding resistance and balance
  • Encoder or resolver feedback and commutation offset
  • Brake release and holding, where fitted
  • No-load run, then full-load run; speed and current against the nameplate
  • Vibration and noise at rated speed
03Repair or replace

Repair or replace

Repair suits MP-Series and older frames where the encoder, bearings, seal or brake failed and the frame is sound, and where a new motor would mean a long wait.

Replacement suits motors with mechanical damage or repeated winding failures. We give you the findings and photos so the decision is yours.

06Questions

Allen-Bradley servo motor questions

More on the FAQ page.

Do you repair Allen-Bradley servo motors?

Yes, including MP-Series, TL-Series and older Y and H series motors used with Kinetix and Ultra drives. Send the nameplate and we confirm before you courier.

Do you repair motors from washdown lines?

Yes. Water ingress damage to encoders, bearings and seals is a common repair. We replace seals and note the cause on the report.

What should I send for a quote on a Allen-Bradley motor?

A photo of the nameplate, the alarm code and a note on the symptom. We confirm repairability before you courier.

Do you need a Allen-Bradley drive to test the motor?

No. Our servo motor test system runs Allen-Bradley motors without the original drive, then a load rig applies full load.

Is there a warranty?

A written warranty is given after a successful repair. Warranty terms are stated on each quotation.
