How Star Automations inspects, tests and traces every unit
Every unit Star Automations repairs is inspected at inward, diagnosed at an ESD-protected bench, tested before return and traced by serial number from start to finish. Refurbished servo motors are tested on our in-house universal servo test system. The work runs under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system at our refurbishment factory in Puducherry.
Every refurbished servo motor is tested on our universal servo test system at our Chennai bench before it is returned.
The system runs servo motors from many brands on one rig, without each brand's own drive, and reads each motor's feedback device directly. A motor is proven to run, and to run under load, before it is dispatched.
- Feedback device
- Incremental and absolute encoders, serial encoders, resolvers, Hall sensors and tachometers: signals and communication.
- Commutation alignment
- The feedback position checked against the motor's electrical angle, and set after an encoder change.
- Run test
- A final run on a universal servo drive, in both directions.
- Load test
- On a custom-built load rig.
- Printed report
- With every motor, by serial number.
Inward inspection and serial traceability
- Every unit photographed at inward and its serial number logged.
- Condition and customer complaint recorded before diagnosis.
- Findings shared with the quote, before any work starts.
- Parts replaced recorded against the unit.
- Test results recorded against acceptance criteria, then signed off.
- The same serial number followed from inward to dispatch.

Test rigs, load rigs and custom jigs
Drives are powered up on a test rig or custom jig and run with a motor under load. Boards are tested on rigs and jigs built for them.

The scope includes servo motors, servo drives, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, encoders, BLDC motors, refurbishing and re-export.
How do you test a repaired servo motor without the original drive?
We test it on our in-house universal servo test system, which runs servo motors from many brands on one rig without each brand's own drive. It reads incremental, absolute and serial encoders, resolvers, Hall sensors and tachometers. Each refurbished motor gets a final run test on a universal servo drive and a load test on a custom-built rig, and goes back with a printed test report.
How do you protect electronics from static damage?
All electronics work is done at ESD-protected benches with grounded workbenches, ESD mats, wrist straps and ionisers. Units are stored and dispatched in ESD packaging, and the ESD protection is tested periodically.
How is each unit traced?
By serial number, from inward photographs through diagnosis, parts replaced and test results to dispatch. The test report carries the serial number and the sign-off.
