Servo motor and industrial electronics repair, tested before dispatch

Star Automations repairs and refurbishes servo motors from Siemens, Fanuc, Yaskawa, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley, ABB, B&R and other industrial brands. Each motor is opened, the failed parts are repaired, the encoder is realigned where needed, and the motor runs with no load and then under full load on our servo motor test system at the Chennai bench before dispatch. Servo drives, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs and boards are repaired too, since 2000.

02How we test servo motors

Every refurbished servo motor is tested on our universal servo test system at our Chennai bench before it is returned.

The system is in-house. It runs servo motors from many brands on one rig, without each brand's own drive, and reads the motor's feedback device directly. Each motor gets a final run test and a load test, and goes back with a printed test report.

04Process

How repair-return works

Every unit follows the same seven steps. For OEM programmes, Star works to your test methods, acceptance criteria and reporting.

  1. Share the nameplate and fault

    WhatsApp a photo of the nameplate, or send an RFQ with the model and symptoms.

  2. Pickup and inward check

    Photos taken and the serial number logged on arrival.

  3. Component-level diagnosis

    The fault is traced on the board: power stage, gate drive, control, feedback.

  4. Quote with findings

    You approve the work knowing what failed and why.

  5. Refurbishment

    Failed components replaced. Motors refurbished (windings, bearings, encoder, brake, sealing as required).

  6. Load and functional test

    Servo motors on the universal servo test system. Drives and boards on test rigs and custom jigs.

  7. Test report and dispatch

    Returned with a test report and serial traceability.

  • Line-down jobs are prioritised.
  • Warranty terms are stated on each quotation.

Which brands of servo drive do you repair?

Star repairs multi-brand servo drives and servo motors at the component level. Servo motors we test include Allen-Bradley, Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Siemens, Yaskawa, Bosch Rexroth and Indramat, Panasonic and Sanyo Denki. The full list is on the motors page. If your model is not listed, send a photo of the nameplate on WhatsApp and we will confirm before you ship anything.

How do you test a repaired servo motor without the original drive?

We test it on our in-house universal servo test system, which runs servo motors from many brands on one rig without each brand's own drive. It reads incremental, absolute and serial encoders, resolvers, Hall sensors and tachometers. Each refurbished motor gets a final run test on a universal servo drive and a load test on a custom-built rig, and goes back with a printed test report.

What does repair-return mean?

Repair-return means you send us the failed unit, and we repair, test and return the same unit to you. We log the serial number on arrival, trace the fault to the component, quote with findings, refurbish, test and dispatch with a test report. Warranty terms are stated on each quotation. Line-down jobs are prioritised.

Do you work to an OEM's own test and reporting process?

Yes. Star works to your test methods, acceptance criteria and reporting. It is how we have worked for about ten years as all-India warranty and service partner for RealLand servo motors (China), and on all-India warranty and post-warranty servo repair support for Shibaura Machine (formerly Toshiba Machine). Most programmes start with a bench trial on 2–3 failed units.

Where are you located?

Star Automations is headquartered in Puducherry, where our refurbishment factory of about 5,000 sq ft is. Our servo motor repair bench, with the universal servo test system, is in Chennai (about 3,000 sq ft, Poonamallee), and a facility of about 7,000 sq ft in Bengaluru for motor repair and cable harness manufacturing. We also have sites in Hyderabad and Delhi. Servo motors can be couriered to the Chennai bench from anywhere in India.
