Yaskawa servo motor repair

Star Automations repairs Yaskawa servo motors, including Sigma series motors such as SGM, SGMAV, SGMJV and SGM7 frames. The motor is inspected, the failed parts are repaired or replaced, the encoder is aligned where needed, and the motor is proved on our servo motor test system with a no-load run and a full-load test before it leaves our Chennai bench. We are not a Yaskawa dealer or service partner; the brand name describes the motor we repair.

Yaskawa servo motor repair
01Failures

Common Yaskawa servo motor failures

Encoder errors

Absolute encoder alarms and battery-backed position loss after power cuts or cable damage.

Bearing noise

High-cycle axes on packaging and pick-and-place machines wear bearings early.

Brake faults

Brakes that drag on release or slip when holding a load.

Connector and cable damage

Flexing in cable chains breaks feedback leads at the motor connector.

02Test bench

What the test bench checks

Yaskawa Sigma motors are read and run on our servo motor test system without the matching SERVOPACK, then loaded on the rig.

  • Insulation resistance and hi-pot
  • Winding resistance and balance
  • Encoder or resolver feedback and commutation offset
  • Brake release and holding, where fitted
  • No-load run, then full-load run; speed and current against the nameplate
  • Vibration and noise at rated speed
03Repair or replace

Repair or replace

Repair suits motors where the frame is sound and the fault is the encoder, bearings, brake or connector, which covers most Sigma motors that reach us.

Replacement suits motors with a damaged shaft, weak magnets or a winding that fails insulation tests. If the motor is an older Sigma generation, a migration may be worth planning while the repair keeps you running.

06Questions

Yaskawa servo motor questions

More on the FAQ page.

Do you repair Yaskawa servo motors?

Yes, including Sigma series motors such as SGM, SGMAV, SGMJV and SGM7 frames. Send the nameplate and we confirm before you courier.

Can you fix absolute encoder position loss?

Yes. We check the encoder, its backup and the cable, repair or replace what failed, and align the encoder before the load test.

What should I send for a quote on a Yaskawa motor?

A photo of the nameplate, the alarm code and a note on the symptom. We confirm repairability before you courier.

Do you need a Yaskawa drive to test the motor?

No. Our servo motor test system runs Yaskawa motors without the original drive, then a load rig applies full load.

Is there a warranty?

A written warranty is given after a successful repair. Warranty terms are stated on each quotation.
