Servo system upgrades
Servo system upgrades, retrofit and migration
When a servo motor, drive or PLC family is no longer supported, Star Automations plans and carries out the upgrade: selecting a current servo package for the machine, migrating the drive and PLC, then installing and commissioning it. The same team that repaired the old system commissions the new one.

When to upgrade instead of repair
Repair keeps you running; an upgrade removes the risk for good.
- Spares for the servo or PLC family are no longer available
- The same failures keep coming back
- The machine needs more speed, accuracy or diagnostics than the old system gives
- Support for the old software or programming tools has ended
How an upgrade runs
Survey
We record the existing motors, drives, PLC, wiring and the machine's motion needs.
Select
We propose a current servo package, drive and PLC to fit the machine.
Migrate
Drive parameters and PLC logic are migrated to the new platform.
Install and commission
We install, tune and commission the new system on the machine.
Keep the old units
Refurbished old units can be kept as spares for sister machines.
When repair is no longer possible, replace the board or migrate the drive.
Some boards cannot be repaired because their parts are no longer made. With our manufacturing partner, we build replacement boards for selected obsolete units, and migration kits that move an old drive or CNC to a current platform with matched mounting and wiring.
Replacement boards are available for selected part numbers. We confirm feasibility per part number. Star Automations is an independent multi-brand repair company and is not an OEM service centre.
- A planned way out when an obsolete board fails beyond repair.
- Kits are matched to your mounting and wiring, so the change-over is planned, not improvised.
- Every kit is tested before dispatch, with a test report.
When should we upgrade a servo system instead of repairing it?
When spares are no longer available, failures repeat, or the machine needs capabilities the old system cannot give. Until then, repair keeps you running while you plan.
What does a servo upgrade include?
A survey of the existing system, selection of a current servo package, drive and PLC, migration of parameters and logic, then installation and commissioning on the machine.
Can you still repair our old units after an upgrade?
Yes. Old units can be refurbished and kept as spares for sister machines that have not been upgraded yet.
