Common Panasonic drive faults
A drive alarm tells you where to look, not always what failed. Overcurrent can be the power stage, the gate drive, the motor or the cable.
- No power, or a blown IGBT or IPM power stage
- DC bus, overvoltage and regeneration faults
- Overcurrent and overload alarms
- Encoder communication alarms such as Err 21.0
- Switch-mode power supply and gate drive failures
- Display, keypad and parameter memory faults
03Alarm codes
Panasonic alarm codes and what to check
Code meanings differ between series. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model.
Err 21.0: encoder communication
Often the encoder, its cable or the connector. Check the cable first, then test the motor and encoder.
Err 14.0: overcurrent
Can be a drive power stage fault, a shorted motor or a cable fault. Disconnect the motor and see if the alarm stays.
Err 11.0 and 12.0: voltage
Control or main supply undervoltage, or overvoltage during braking. Check supply and regeneration resistor.
Err 16.0: overload
Load or brake problem, or a weak motor. Check the mechanics before resetting.

04Verification
How a repaired Panasonic drive is tested
After component-level repair, the drive is powered up on a test rig, the power stage and feedback circuits are checked, and the drive is run with a servo motor under load. Your drive comes back with its own settings and serial history, and a printed test report.
If the motor is the real cause, the drive repair alone will not hold. When the alarm points to feedback or overcurrent, send the motor too: see Panasonic servo motor repair and encoder repair. We are an independent multi-brand repair company, not an OEM service centre.

No. Star Automations is an independent multi-brand repair company, not an OEM service centre. The brand name only describes the equipment we repair.
What does Panasonic Err 21.0 mean?
It is an encoder communication alarm on MINAS drives. The cause is often the encoder, its cable or a connector, but a drive input fault is also possible. See our Err 21.0 guide, then send the drive and motor if it persists.
Can you repair the motor and the drive together?
Yes. When the alarm points to feedback or overcurrent we test the drive with the motor, so a motor fault does not bring the alarm back.
