Fanuc SV0414 alarm: servo alarm, detect error
Fanuc SV0414 is a digital servo alarm that points to a detected servo fault on one axis. It does not name the cause. The detail is on the diagnosis screen, and it can be the amplifier, the motor or the feedback.
By Suresh Sankaran, founder of Star Automations, servo motor repair since 1998.
What the alarm means
SV0414 is raised by the digital servo when it detects an error in the axis. Read the diagnosis screen detail bits for the axis to see which condition was detected, then match it with the manual for your control.
Common causes
- Amplifier fault in the power stage or control
- Motor or winding fault
- Feedback or pulsecoder fault
- Wrong or corrupted servo parameters after a battery or memory loss
Safe first checks
General guidance only. Follow the drive manual and your site's electrical safety rules. Power off, and let the DC bus discharge, before touching connectors.
- Note the axis and read the diagnosis screen detail for that axis.
- Power off and check the motor power and feedback cables and connectors.
- Check the amplifier status lights and any other alarm shown with SV0414.
- Check recent changes: parameters, battery replacement, or a motor or amplifier swap.
When to send it for repair
Send the amplifier and the motor together when the detail bits do not clearly name one side. We test both on the bench so a motor fault does not bring the alarm back after the amplifier is repaired.

Questions
Can I clear SV0414 and carry on?
A reset may clear it for a while, but the alarm usually returns until the cause is fixed. Read the diagnosis detail before resetting.
Where is the real cause shown?
On the diagnosis screen for that axis. Send us a photo of the detail bits with the amplifier label and we can say where to look.
How long does repair take?
Emergency repair is done the same day where the fault and parts allow, urgent in 3 working days and standard in 7 working days, counted from when the unit reaches our bench and the quote is approved. Every unit returns with a printed test report.
Can I get an exchange unit?
If we hold a matching unit, Servo Swap ships a tested exchange unit while yours is repaired. Mark "line down" on the request form and add the part number.
