Fanuc servo motor repair

Star Automations repairs Fanuc servo motors, including alpha i and beta i series motors on CNC machine tools. The motor is inspected, the failed parts are repaired or replaced, the encoder is aligned where needed, and the motor is proved on our servo motor test system with a no-load run and a full-load test before it leaves our Chennai bench. We are not a Fanuc dealer or service partner; the brand name describes the motor we repair.

Fanuc servo motor repair
01Failures

Common Fanuc servo motor failures

Pulsecoder faults

Communication or position alarms from the Pulsecoder, often after coolant reaches it through a worn shaft seal.

Coolant and oil ingress

Machine-tool coolant gets past the oil seal and into the motor, damaging the encoder and insulation.

Bearing wear

Noise and vibration on axis motors that run long cycles on heavy cuts.

Brake on vertical axes

A Z-axis brake that does not hold lets the axis drift when power is removed.

02Test bench

What the test bench checks

Fanuc motors are run on our servo motor test system without a Fanuc amplifier, so the motor is judged on its own condition before it goes back to the machine.

  • Insulation resistance and hi-pot
  • Winding resistance and balance
  • Encoder or resolver feedback and commutation offset
  • Brake release and holding, where fitted
  • No-load run, then full-load run; speed and current against the nameplate
  • Vibration and noise at rated speed
03Repair or replace

Repair or replace

Repair makes sense when the motor is an older alpha or beta i frame that is costly or slow to replace, or when coolant damage is limited to the seal, bearings and Pulsecoder.

Replacement is better when the shaft or housing is damaged, the magnets have weakened, or the same motor has failed repeatedly from coolant on a machine that has not been fixed. We tell you which case it is after inspection.

05How to send

How to send the motor

You can send a servo motor from anywhere in India. Talk to us before you courier, so the unit is expected and logged on arrival.

  1. Send the nameplate

WhatsApp a clear photo of the nameplate, the alarm code and what the machine was doing when it failed.

  2. We confirm repairability

We tell you whether we can test and repair that model before anything is shipped.

  3. Courier or pickup

Courier the motor to our Chennai bench, or ask us to arrange pickup where needed.

  4. Inspection and quote

The motor is opened, inspected and photographed. You get the findings and a quote before work starts.

  5. Repair, test, dispatch

Repaired, run-tested and load-tested, then dispatched with a printed test report.

06Questions

Fanuc servo motor questions

More on the FAQ page.

Do you repair Fanuc servo motors?

Yes, including alpha i and beta i series motors on CNC machine tools. Send the nameplate and we confirm before you courier.

Why does coolant keep damaging the Pulsecoder?

Usually a worn front oil seal or coolant spraying directly on the motor. We replace the seal and note the root cause on the report.

What should I send for a quote on a Fanuc motor?

A photo of the nameplate, the alarm code and a note on the symptom. We confirm repairability before you courier.

Do you need a Fanuc drive to test the motor?

No. Our servo motor test system runs Fanuc motors without the original drive, then a load rig applies full load.

Is there a warranty?

A written warranty is given after a successful repair. Warranty terms are stated on each quotation.
