Repair-return

Repair-return for industrial and motion electronics

Repair-return means you send us the failed unit, we trace the fault to the component, repair and test it, and return the same unit with a test report. Star Automations does this for servo motors and drives, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, CNC boards, power electronics and EV electronics, at its refurbishment factory in Puducherry, for plants and OEMs across India and abroad.

How repair-return works

Every unit follows the same seven steps. For OEM programmes, Star works to your test methods, acceptance criteria and reporting.

  1. Share the nameplate and fault

WhatsApp a photo of the nameplate and the alarm code, or send an RFQ. We confirm whether we can test it before you ship.

  2. Pickup and inward check

By courier or pickup. On arrival we photograph the unit and log its serial number.

  3. Component-level diagnosis

The fault is traced on the board: power stage, gate drive, control, feedback.

  4. Quote with findings

You see what failed and what we propose before any work starts.

  5. Refurbishment

Failed components replaced. Motors refurbished (windings, bearings, encoder, brake, sealing as required).

  6. Load and functional test

Servo motors on the universal servo test system. Drives run with a motor under load. Boards on test rigs and custom jigs.

  7. Test report and dispatch

Returned with a printed test report and serial traceability.

  • Line-down jobs are prioritised.
  • Warranty terms are stated on each quotation.

Why component-level repair beats a board swap

A board swap replaces a whole assembly and returns the unit without telling you why it failed. It also depends on a replacement board being available, which is often the problem with older equipment.

Component-level repair finds the part that failed and replaces that part. The original unit comes back with its configuration and serial history intact, the failure is recorded, and a repeat fault can be traced to its cause.

  • Works when replacement boards are obsolete.
  • Keeps the original unit, its settings and its history.
  • Done at ESD-protected benches: grounded benches, mats, wrist straps and ionisers, with ESD packaging and periodic checks.
  • Every repair leaves a record of what failed.
04Line-down

Exchange units and spares

When a line is down, we can often ship a tested exchange unit or a spare while your unit is repaired. Ask with the part number.

06Questions

Repair-return questions

More answers on the FAQ page.

What does repair-return mean?

Repair-return means you send us the failed unit, and we repair, test and return the same unit to you. We log the serial number on arrival, trace the fault to the component, quote with findings, refurbish, test and dispatch with a test report. Warranty terms are stated on each quotation. Line-down jobs are prioritised.

How do I send a unit for repair?

Send a photo of the nameplate and the fault or alarm code on WhatsApp to +91 97866 22233, or send an RFQ. We confirm whether we can test it, then you courier servo motors to our Chennai bench and other units to our Puducherry factory, or we arrange pickup.

Do you repair at component level or replace boards?

We repair at component level. The fault is traced on the board, whether in the power stage, gate drive, control or feedback circuit, and the failed parts are replaced. The unit is then tested on a rig before return.

Do you quote before starting work?

Yes. After diagnosis we send a quote that lists what failed and what we propose. Work starts after you approve it.

Which equipment do you repair?

Servo motors and servo drives, VFDs and AC drives, PLCs, HMIs, CNC boards, industrial PCBs and power electronics, and EV motor controllers, chargers, DC-DC converters and power boards. We also refurbish BLDC, permanent-magnet and EV motors.

What documents do I receive?

You receive a quote with findings, a printed test report with the tests, acceptance criteria and results, and a GST invoice. The serial number is traced from inward to dispatch. For OEM programmes, Star works to your reporting format.
