Servo or induction motor for injection moulding: how to choose

A servo pump motor changes speed with the cycle, while an induction motor on a fixed pump runs at near constant speed. Servo gives control and lower idle power use; induction is simpler and cheaper to repair. Star repairs both and supplies servo retrofit systems.

01Guide

Servo vs induction motor

Energy use

Servo drives supply only the flow the cycle needs. Induction with a fixed pump keeps running between movements.

Control

Servo gives closed-loop speed and pressure control through the encoder.

Repair and spares

Induction motors are simpler to repair. Servo motors need encoder work and a matching drive.

Decision

Send your machine details and we advise whether retrofit makes sense.

02FAQ

Questions

Is servo better than induction for injection moulding?

Servo suits plants that want control and lower idle energy use. Induction can be adequate for simple, steady jobs. The right choice depends on your machine and cycle.

Can an induction motor drive be upgraded to servo?

Often yes, as a retrofit. Send the machine details for an assessment.

Who supplies the retrofit?

Star supplies servo retrofit and energy-saving systems and repairs the servo system afterwards.

Are you the machine maker?

No. Star Automations is an independent multi-brand repair company, not an OEM or authorised service centre. Brand names only describe the equipment we repair.
