Sanyo Denki, Sumtak and Kawasaki encoder repair

Sanyo Denki servo motors and the robots built on them, from Nachi, Kawasaki and Meiden, use Sanyo Denki, Sumtak and Kawasaki encoders, both serial and wire-saving incremental. We test them, repair or replace them, and align them to the rotor.

Sanyo Denki serial encoder check

Repair turnaround you can plan around

Send a photo of the nameplate first. We confirm whether the motor is repairable, and the quote, the same working day.

Emergency: same day

For a line-down motor, where the fault and parts allow. WhatsApp us before you send it so the bench is kept free.

Urgent: 3 working days

Repair, encoder alignment and test, counted from the day the motor reaches the bench and the quote is approved.

Standard: 7 working days

Full repair, encoder alignment, run test under load and a printed test report.

  • Free repairability check from a nameplate photo
  • Printed test report with every motor
  • Written warranty, terms stated on every quotation
  • Pickup can be arranged; parts that must be imported are quoted with their own timeline

Wire-saving encoders send U, V and W on the A, B and Z lines at power-up, then switch to normal counting.

02Faults

How these encoders usually fail

  • Serial errors from damaged connectors and cables on robot arms
  • Battery-related loss of position on absolute types
  • Encoder board failure from coolant or heat
  • Wrong startup commutation on wire-saving encoders
03Identify

Reading the label

Sanyo Denki P-series motor codes include a letter that identifies the encoder. Sumtak encoders may be marked AEC, AEM, REC or REM 2048; they are essentially the same type as the Sanyo Denki E07B111335.

04Motors

Motors fitted with these encoders

Sanyo Denki P, Q and R series and BL Super motors, Sanyo Denki 62BM080, Nachi, Kawasaki and Meiden robots and motors, NEC motors with Sanyo Denki encoders, Giddings and Lewis motors with Sumtak encoders.

06FAQ

Questions

Do you repair Kawasaki robot axis motors?

Yes, including those with H20/M21 and HE-02 serial encoders.

Is a Sumtak REM 2048 the same as a Sanyo Denki encoder?

Functionally it matches the Sanyo Denki E07B111335 type, and is tested the same way.

My robot lost its position after a power cut. Is the encoder faulty?

Often the backup battery is low. Replace it and re-master; if the alarm returns, send the motor.

07Enquiry

Send the nameplate or encoder label

A clear photo of the motor nameplate and, if the cover is off, the encoder label is enough to start. We reply with whether it can be repaired and a quote.
