Siemens S5 and S7-300 migration to S7-1500 and TIA Portal
S5 has been out of production for years and S7-300 and S7-400 are being phased out. We convert S5 and Step 7 programs to TIA Portal, map the I/O to S7-1500 or ET 200SP, and replace old OP and TP panels, with a cut-over planned around your production.

From and to
| Legacy | Current | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| S5-90U, 95U, 100U, 115U, 135U, 155U | S7-1200 or S7-1500 | S5 code is rewritten, not just converted; timers and data blocks need checking |
| S7-300 (CPU 31x) | S7-1500 (CPU 151x) | Step 7 to TIA Portal conversion, then clean-up |
| S7-400 | S7-1500 or S7-1500H | Redundant systems need careful planning |
| ET 200M, ET 200S I/O | ET 200SP, ET 200MP | I/O mapping and addressing |
| MPI and Profibus networks | Profinet, or Profibus kept via couplers | Drives and remote I/O decide the approach |
| OP7, OP17, TP170, MP270, MP370 | Comfort or Unified panels | Screens rebuilt in WinCC |
What needs care
- Indirect addressing and pointer code in S5 and S7 programs
- Profibus drives and remote I/O that will stay on site
- Safety logic and its validation
- Scan time and timing-dependent logic
- Old Simodrive and Masterdrive drives on the same network
Keeping the old one running
We repair S5 and S7 CPUs, power supplies and I/O modules, and OP and TP panels, and supply obsolete modules, so the plant runs until cut-over. See PLC and HMI repair.
Questions
Can an S5 program be converted automatically?
Partly. Tools give a starting point, but the result must be reviewed and rewritten in places. We test the converted logic before cut-over.
Can we keep our Profibus drives?
Often yes. S7-1500 supports Profibus with the right module, so drives can be migrated later.
Send the nameplate or encoder label
A clear photo of the motor nameplate and, if the cover is off, the encoder label is enough to start. We reply with whether it can be repaired and a quote.
