Power Supply, SMPS, Adapter and LED Driver Hipot Testing in Bengaluru
Star Automations runs AC and DC withstand and insulation resistance tests on power supplies, SMPS, adapters and LED drivers from our Bengaluru office. You receive a per-unit test record with the voltage applied, current limit, duration and pass or fail.
Important: This is an in-house electrical safety test and test record service for pre-compliance, production and post-repair testing. It is not NABL-accredited testing, and it is not BIS or CE certification. Our records do not replace a certified laboratory's report. For accredited certification, please use a NABL- or BIS-recognised laboratory.
What a hipot test checks in a power supply
A power supply keeps its mains-side circuit separated from the output and from the metal case. A hipot test applies a high voltage across that separation for a set time and watches the leakage current. If the insulation holds without breakdown, arc or excess current, the unit passes. It checks insulation only. It is not a performance or functional test.
Primary-to-secondary and primary-to-earth connections
- Primary to secondary: across the isolation barrier of the supply.
- Primary to earth: between the mains-side circuit and the metal case or earth pin.
- Insulation resistance: a lower DC voltage, up to 1 kV, to read the condition of the insulation.
- AC or DC: chosen from your specification. DC draws less current on capacitive products.
Pre-compliance before certification
IS/IEC 62368-1, IS 13252 and IS 15885 are named here only as context. A pre-compliance check shows whether your insulation holds before you book an accredited or BIS-recognised laboratory. The limits for your product come from your specification, and we do not quote limits from these standards.
Production overflow for small and mid batches
When your own end-of-line tester is busy or down, we can test the batch unit by unit and return the test record. Share the quantity and the test settings you use.
Multi-pin fixtures and scanning
For products with many connection points, the Chroma 19053 has an 8-channel high-voltage scanner. We can set up a fixture and a test program for multi-pin products on request.
How it works
Sample intake
Send us the product type, quantity, test specification and the voltage and current limit you need. Ship samples to us or book an on-site visit in Bengaluru.
Test plan
We agree the test type (AC, DC, IR or a combination), voltage, current limit, duration and where to connect, in writing, before testing.
Test
Trained staff run the test with interlocks and a discharge procedure. Every unit is tested and logged individually.
Report
You receive a test record, with unit ID, applied voltage, current limit, duration, measured value and pass or fail.
What you receive
A test record (PDF) that lists, for each unit:
- Unit ID or serial number
- Test type (AC withstand, DC withstand, insulation resistance)
- Applied voltage and current limit
- Test duration
- Measured leakage current or insulation resistance
- Pass or fail
- Instrument model used, test date and operator name
Questions
Which connections do you test on a power supply?
We test primary to secondary and primary to earth, and can read insulation resistance across the same points. The exact connections, voltage, current limit and time come from your product specification. Share these before testing so we can write the test plan with you.
Can you run overflow testing for a batch?
Yes. We can test small and mid batches unit by unit when your own tester is busy, and return one test record covering every unit. Share the quantity, test settings and sample details first, so we can confirm the plan before samples arrive.
Does this replace BIS or safety certification?
No. This is an in-house test and record for pre-compliance and production checks. We are not a NABL-accredited or BIS-recognised laboratory, and our records do not replace accredited reports or registration. Use a recognised laboratory for certification.
