How our reports work

Every report gives facts: what was tested, what was found, photos, costs and market values. Conclusions on liability and cover stay with the surveyor. Star does not act for the insured or the insurer in the claim decision.

04FAQ

Questions from surveyors

Who gives repair estimates for machinery and electronics claims?

A specialist repairer who can test the damaged units. Star Automations repairs servo motors, drives, PLCs, CNC electronics and power electronics at component level, and gives surveyors bench-tested repairability findings and itemised repair costs per unit. The surveyor makes the assessment; Star supplies the technical facts.

Can old or discontinued equipment still be repaired?

Often yes. Component-level repair does not depend on the maker still supplying the unit. Where a part is obsolete, we look for an equivalent, a harvested part or a unit from surplus stock. The report states whether repair is possible, at what cost, and how that compares with replacement and its lead time.

How is the salvage value of damaged electronics estimated?

From the used and repairable market for that model: what the damaged unit, or its working parts, would sell for. Our estimates draw on Star's own surplus, ReValue and ReLife sales. Where useful, Star can also buy or remarket the salvage, which settles the value in practice.

Can you tell what caused the damage?

We report findings, not conclusions: signs of water ingress, mud and corrosion, surge damage on input stages, overheating or long-term wear. The surveyor uses these findings to judge whether the damage relates to the insured event.

Is Star a licensed surveyor?

No. Star Automations is an independent repair company. We do not assess claims or give opinions on policy cover. We provide the technical evidence a licensed surveyor or loss assessor needs: test results, repair costs, repair-or-replace comparisons and salvage values.

How fast can you report?

For a few units, the bench test and cost estimate usually follow soon after the units reach us; for a large loss, we triage at site first and report in batches, line-critical units first. Tell us the claim timeline and we plan to it.
