HMI migration

PanelView and RSView migration to PanelView Plus 7, PanelView 5000 and FactoryTalk View

PanelView Standard, PanelView Plus 6 and RSView applications are ageing. Star Automations migrates them to PanelView Plus 7, PanelView 5000 and FactoryTalk View: screen and tag conversion, communication changes, alarm and recipe checks, and on-site testing. We also repair and supply legacy PanelView terminals meanwhile.

Typical migration paths

The right target depends on your I/O count, networks, performance needs and budget. We confirm the target during the audit — the table shows the usual direction, not a fixed rule.

02Technical points

What needs care in this migration

Screens and tags

Conversion tools help with screens, but tag references, alarms, recipes and data logs need hand checking against the new controller tags.

Communications

Terminals on DH+ or Remote I/O move to EtherNet/IP; the controller side may be changing at the same time.

Mounting

Cutouts and depth must be checked so the new terminal fits the existing panel door.

Failure meanwhile

Blank screens and dead touch on old terminals are common. We repair and supply legacy terminals so production continues.

03How we run it

Our migration process

  • Migration readiness audit: inventory of hardware, firmware, networks, programs and spares
  • Back up and document the running system before anything is touched
  • Design the target architecture and I/O mapping; agree scope and the cutover approach
  • Convert and rebuild the program and HMI, with every conversion warning reviewed by hand
  • Test in stages: simulation, panel factory test where panels are built, then site testing
  • Cutover with a rollback plan, then handover documentation

What we need from you: Program backups (or access to the running processor); Electrical drawings and the I/O list, if available; Network layout and device list; Photos of nameplates, panels and wiring; Your shutdown windows and any safety requirements.

06FAQ

Common questions

What replaces PanelView 600?
Typically a PanelView Plus 7 or a current PanelView 5000 model, depending on size, communications and budget. We confirm during the audit.
What is the difference between PanelView Plus 6 and 7?
PanelView Plus 7 is the newer generation with newer firmware and FactoryTalk View ME versions. Applications can often be converted but always need testing.
What is FactoryTalk View?
Rockwell Automation HMI software: FactoryTalk View ME for machine-level terminals and FactoryTalk View SE for supervisory systems.
Why is my PanelView not connecting?
Common causes are network settings, a changed IP or node address, cable faults, or a controller change. Send the model and the message shown on the screen.
