BLDC ceiling fan controller ICs and reference design support in India
For a mains-powered BLDC ceiling fan, inergy lists the iU6399, a sensorless HV driver SoC rated for AC 90–380 V, and for low-voltage fans the iU6398, iU6395 and iU6392A. Star Automations is the inergy (Taiwan) India partner, agreement in progress, and helps Indian fan makers with samples, tuning and field-return analysis.
Who this page is for
- Ceiling fan makers moving a range from induction to BLDC
- Brands planning 4-star and 5-star models
- Fan makers who want a second source for the control IC
- Service teams that repair BLDC fan controllers
The problem Indian teams run into
BEE star labelling is pulling the Indian fan market towards BLDC. A Power Integrations article summarising IS 374:2019 reports that, for blades of 1200 to 1500 mm, a 5-star rating needs a service value of 6.0 m³/min/W or more, and that induction motors would struggle to reach it (source: power.com, REPORTED). Your design therefore lives or dies on motor efficiency and controller tuning.
The usual difficulties are start-up reliability at low voltage, noise at low speeds, EMI that fails pre-compliance, and the remote receiver. All of these are tuning problems as much as hardware problems, which is why inergy offers a live remote fine-tune service.
Replacing failed BLDC fan controllers
Service centres and brands see failed BLDC fan controller boards come back from the field. Repairing the board is not always practical, and the original driver IC may be hard to get. Star can evaluate an alternative controller built around inergy's HV or LV driver ICs for your fan, and examine returned boards to find why they failed. Compatibility with an existing motor and fan model is checked case by case.
Make in India: inergy's ICs are made by inergy in Taiwan. What we bring to India is the engineering around them: design support, tuning, testing, training and service, so Indian manufacturers can build, tune and support their own controllers locally and rely less on imported finished controllers.

Design notes before you start
- Blade size and motor design set the efficiency ceiling. The controller's job is to run that motor at its best operating point.
- Low-speed noise is mostly a commutation and current-control issue. Tune start-up profile and advance angle on the actual fan.
- Mains disturbances (surges, brown-outs) are common in Indian homes. Test start-up across your supply range.
- Keep the remote receiver and controller on separate ground paths where possible to avoid false triggers.

From sample to mass production
1. Share your requirement
Send company name, application, expected annual volume, the driver IC or controller you use today, and your target date. A short form on WhatsApp is enough.
2. Part selection and design review
We match your application to devices in inergy's published IC library and check which reference-design files (schematic, BOM, Gerber, firmware) are available for it. Availability of files for a given design: confirmed per enquiry.
3. Sample and evaluation
We arrange samples or an evaluation board for your bench. Sample quantities and lead time: confirmed per enquiry.
4. Remote motor fine-tune
inergy states that its FAEs tune the motor drive live over a remote link, book a slot within 48 hours of a request and return the parameter set, updated firmware and a session report the same day. Your lab engineer joins with a UART dongle, the motor control tool and AnyDesk or UltraViewer. Star coordinates the booking and sits in on the session.
5. EVT and DVT validation
Check protections (overvoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature), EMI and acoustic behaviour, start-up and stall recovery on your actual motor and PCB, not only on the reference board.
6. Mass-production readiness
Freeze firmware and BOM, confirm supply, and set up a loop for field returns. Star's repair and failure-analysis team can examine returned units so findings go back into the design.
