Motion migration
Kinetix 6000 and Ultra 3000/5000 migration to Kinetix 5700 and 5100
Star Automations plans migrations from Kinetix 6000, Ultra 3000 and Ultra 5000 servo drives to Kinetix 5700 and Kinetix 5100: motor and feedback compatibility, motion network changes, tuning and commissioning. We also repair servo drives and motors while the migration is planned.

Typical migration paths
The right target depends on your I/O count, networks, performance needs and budget. We confirm the target during the audit — the table shows the usual direction, not a fixed rule.
| Legacy | Typical target | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Kinetix 6000 | Kinetix 5700 | Legacy SERCOS to EtherNet/IP motion |
| Ultra 3000 | Kinetix 5100 | Check feedback and motor type |
| Ultra 5000 | Kinetix 5700 | Controller and motion network review |
What needs care in this migration
Motors and feedback
We check whether existing motors and feedback can be kept or need replacing, and verify cables and encoder type before ordering.
Motion network
Moving to EtherNet/IP motion usually involves the controller and its configuration.
Tuning
Axes are re-tuned and verified one by one at commissioning.
Repair option
Servo motors and drives can often be repaired in the meantime. See our servo repair service.
Our migration process
- Migration readiness audit: inventory of hardware, firmware, networks, programs and spares
- Back up and document the running system before anything is touched
- Design the target architecture and I/O mapping; agree scope and the cutover approach
- Convert and rebuild the program and HMI, with every conversion warning reviewed by hand
- Test in stages: simulation, panel factory test where panels are built, then site testing
- Cutover with a rollback plan, then handover documentation
What we need from you: Program backups (or access to the running processor); Electrical drawings and the I/O list, if available; Network layout and device list; Photos of nameplates, panels and wiring; Your shutdown windows and any safety requirements.
