Custom DC motor manufacturer in India

Star Automations designs and manufactures custom DC, PMDC and PMDC servo motors at its factory in Puducherry, India, from 12 V up to 90 V DC and for 200 V to 240 V AC drive input. Each motor is designed for the customer's application, not picked from a fixed catalogue, with Hall sensor, encoder or resolver feedback and an optional brake. We machine the housings, end caps and shafts, wind the field coils and armatures, assemble the motor and run-test it before dispatch. Send your voltage, power, speed, shaft and mounting, and we tell you whether we can build it, and at what price.

02What we build

DC motors built to your application

Wound-field DC motors

Field coils and pole shoes, armature with commutator, brush gear and bearings, assembled in a machined aluminium housing.

PMDC and PMDC servo motors

Permanent-magnet DC motors and PMDC servo motors with feedback, for speed and position control.

Custom housings and shafts

Housing, flange, end cap and shaft machined to your mounting, so the motor fits your machine without changes.

Replacement for obsolete motors

When the original motor is no longer made, send a sample. We study it and build a matching motor.

Small brushless motors

Brushless motors up to 1 kW for applications where you want no brush maintenance.

03Feedback and brake

Feedback devices and brakes, fitted to order

Every motor can be built with or without feedback and with or without a brake. Tell us the drive or controller you use, and we match the feedback signal to it.

Hall sensors

Hall-effect sensors for commutation and speed signals, used on brushless and PMDC servo motors.

Encoder

Encoder feedback for accurate speed and position control. Resolution and output type are chosen to suit your drive.

Resolver

Resolver feedback where heat, vibration or a harsh environment needs a rugged position sensor.

With brake

A holding brake on the motor shaft, so the load stays in place when power is off. Brake voltage is chosen to suit your system.

04Applications

Where our motors are used

If your application is not listed, send the requirement. We design the motor around it.

Machines and automation

Special purpose machines, packaging, printing and labelling, textile machines, conveyors and material handling.

Railway

Motors for railway equipment and sub-systems, built to the drawing and specification of the order.

Medical equipment

Motors for medical devices and hospital equipment, sized to the duty and space in the device.

Laboratory equipment

Motors for lab instruments such as stirrers, shakers, pumps and sample handling.

Pumps, fans and actuators

Dosing and transfer pumps, blowers, valve actuators and linear actuators.

Battery-powered equipment

12 V to 90 V DC motors for trolleys, carts, AGVs, solar tracking and other battery or DC supply systems.

06How we build

From your specification to a tested motor

  1. Specification

You send the voltage, power, speed, duty, shaft and mounting, or a drawing or sample.

  2. Design and quote

We confirm the design, the price and the delivery date in writing.

  3. Machining

Housing, end caps and shaft are machined in our workshop.

  4. Winding and assembly

Field coils and armature are wound, then the motor is assembled with bearings and brush gear.

  5. Run test and dispatch

Every motor is run-tested before dispatch, with a test record.

07What to send

What to send for a motor quote

The more of these you send, the faster and more exact the quote. If you only have an old motor, a photo of it and its nameplate is a good start.

A prototype is built and approved first. Batch production follows the approved prototype.

  • Supply voltage (DC)
  • Power, or torque and speed
  • Duty: continuous or intermittent
  • Direction of rotation
  • Feedback: Hall sensors, encoder, resolver or none
  • Brake: with or without, and brake voltage
  • Shaft diameter, length and key or flat
  • Mounting: flange, foot or face, with dimensions
  • Lead wire length, type and terminations
  • Quantity: prototype and yearly volume
  • Drawing, datasheet or a sample motor
08Why Star

Why buyers choose Star Automations for custom motors

Motor people since 1998

Our founder has worked on servo motors since 1998. Star Automations was founded in 2000.

One factory, one owner

Machining, winding, assembly and testing happen under one roof, so one team answers for the motor.

Made in India

Designed and built in Puducherry. No import lead time on the motor.

Repair background

Years of repairing motors from many brands show us how motors fail. That shapes how we build ours.
