What is the Servo Health Check?
The Servo Health Check is a free Beta tool from Star Automations that compares your servo motor or drive’s operating usage against verified OEM lifecycle reference data, and returns a simple Green, Amber or Red maintenance status. It is a maintenance advisory, not a failure predictor.
Why we built it
For 25 years, Star Automations has repaired, sourced and replaced servo motors and drives across industrial plants in India and internationally. As we enter our 26th year, one pattern kept repeating in almost every customer conversation: maintenance teams don’t know when a servo motor or drive is approaching the end of its verified service interval — until it fails.
Most plants don’t track operating hours against OEM-published lifecycle references. The result is either premature part replacement (wasted budget) or unplanned downtime (lost production). The Servo Health Check Beta is our attempt to close that gap using the same category of reference data we already work with in daily repair and maintenance decisions.
Who is it for?
It’s built for maintenance engineers and plant teams who want a fast, data-backed way to check whether a servo motor or drive is due for a closer look — before it fails and stops production.
How does it work?
The Servo Health Check is a maintenance advisory calculator, not a prediction engine. Here is exactly how it works:
- You enter the brand, model and either total operating hours or an estimate (hours/day × operating days/week × years in service).
- The tool compares your usage against a verified OEM lifecycle reference dataset — reference hours or reference years published by the manufacturer for that component family, each with a documented source and date.
- It returns a status band per component:
- Green — usage is below 50% of the verified reference interval
- Amber — usage is between 50% and 100% of the reference interval
- Red — usage is at or beyond the reference interval
- If you only provide an installation year (no hours), hour-based components are shown as “usage hours not provided” rather than guessed — we do not fabricate a number to fill the gap.
What does it tell you?
It tells you whether your recorded or estimated usage has crossed a manufacturer-referenced maintenance interval, using the same category of data an OEM manual would cite — a practical signal for planning an inspection or preventive maintenance visit.
Is it predictive maintenance?
No. The Servo Health Check does not predict failure and does not estimate remaining useful life. Two units at identical operating hours can be in very different condition depending on load, environment, and maintenance history — the tool has no way to see that. Treat the result as a prompt to plan an inspection, not as a diagnosis.
Brand coverage today
The Beta currently returns a calculated reference band only for brands and model families in our verified lifecycle dataset. If you enter a brand or model we haven’t verified yet, the tool does not invent a number — it routes your case to our technical team for manual review instead.
What should I do if the result suggests a maintenance review?
An Amber or Red result is a planning signal, not an emergency alert. From there, you can send us the part number, nameplate details or symptom through Ask Star, and our technical team will advise whether a repair or a replacement is the more practical route for your equipment.
