The wider Sigma-II family — SGDM, SGDH, SGDP, and SGDJ — has been discontinued by Yaskawa, whose published direction for new installations is the current Sigma-7 platform.
What “end of factory support” means, specifically
Yaskawa Singapore’s own discontinued-products notice documents the phased end of support across the Sigma family. It lists the Sigma-III SGDS as discontinued in 2015, with factory repair service for that unit ending on 20 March 2025. That single, dated fact is the clearest evidence available that Yaskawa’s own factory support for older Sigma generations is not open-ended — it has a published end date, generation by generation.
For a maintenance team, this means three things in plain terms:
- New-unit purchase from Yaskawa for SGDM/SGDH is no longer possible — the platform is discontinued.
- Factory repair service through Yaskawa itself has a documented wind-down pattern across the Sigma family, generation by generation.

Three realistic paths for an SGDM/SGDH drive today
1. Repair and keep the architecture as-is
Repair keeps your wiring, tuning, and motor pairing exactly as built — no requalification. This is the lowest-risk route when the fault is in a repairable area (power stage, capacitors, connectors, feedback interface) and you are not ready for a migration project.
2. Source a replacement unit of the same model
An exact-model replacement avoids any re-engineering, but availability depends entirely on what exists in the surplus and specialist-stockist market for a discontinued platform — nobody can honestly promise a date for a part that may not currently exist anywhere. The realistic move is to start that search before the drive is actually down.
3. Migrate to Sigma-7
Yaskawa’s own published migration direction is Sigma-7. Moving from Sigma-II to Sigma-7 is a genuine engineering project — wiring, tuning, and in some cases motor pairing all need review — so it is a guided replacement evaluation, not a drop-in swap.

Should I repair or migrate my SGDM/SGDH drive?
